Our most valuable asset is our highly trained and professional staff who are recruited from colleges all over the country and around the world.
Counselors are selected on the basis of good character and their ability to relate well to children. Program staff members are college students or graduates, who are dedicated, experienced, responsible, enthusiastic, positive and fun!
Jen Feltz, Executive Director of Camping Services

Greetings! I have been the Executive Director here at Camp Matawa since March of 2003 and love it! I was a “Y brat” and grew up going to camp and being a camp counselor. I can’t imagine doing anything else besides working for this great organization and being able to have a positive effect on so many kids and families that we serve each year. I have two great kids, Brady and Ellie, who are both future campers!
Before coming to Matawa, I held positions as the Senior Program Director at YMCA Camp Kern in Ohio and as the Teen and Camp Director at the Southwest YMCA in Greenfield, another branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. I have enjoyed working with our campers, parents, board members and staff as we all work together to create the wonderful spirit that is Camp Matawa. I hope that if you have any questions, concerns or comments that you will not hesitate to contact me at camp or via email.Wendy Mieske, Camp Operations Director.

I joined the Camp Matawa family in May of 2007 and could not be more thrilled. What an incredible place! Natural beauty and fantastic people, who could ask for more? I have been working in the camping profession for 15 years and am always eager to experience something new. My husband and I, along with our two amazing children, Wesley and Rebecca, moved here from Michigan where I worked as a Day Camp and School Age Child Care Director for the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit for six years. Prior to my time in Detroit I was the Outdoor Education Director for YMCA Camp Potawotami in Indiana for almost three years. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, being outside, watching movies, listening to music and reading. My family also really enjoys hockey - GO RED WINGS! I am excited to continue to learn more about Camp Matawa and its staff and campers. I only hope that they will learn a little something from me as well! Feel free to email me or call camp at (262) 626-2149 and ask for Wendy.
Andrew Gappa, Program Director

Hello! I’ve joined the Matawa family full-time since 2010. I’ve held various positions during the summer time from being a counselor, Leadership Director, and Village Director since 2003. I am now currently the Program Director overseeing all camp programs. I graduated from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee with a degree in Elementary Education. I hold two state certifications in pre-K to 6th grade general education and cross-categorical special education grades 1 to 8. In my free time; I love to watch movies and television, enjoy the beauty of the Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine by hiking, canoeing, and fishing. I have a two-year old Jack Russell/Chihuahua Mix that I’ve adopted from the Ozaukee Humane Society…he is a wonderful dog. I love the spirit of Matawa and what it brings to every individual who has the opportunity to experience it. It’s such an inspirational place for kids and families to learn, grow, and build relationships, I can’t fathom the thought of working anywhere else than Camp Matawa and the Y. If you have any questions about summer camp, group rentals, environmental education, and our family programs please feel free to email or call (262) 626-2149.

Erin Gastrau, Center Administrator.

I joined the Camp Matawa Family in September 2009 as the Center Administrator. I usually do not have direct contact with the kids here at camp, but I do get the experience of spreading the word and working with parents to share the spirit of Matawa. I have enjoyed working with the families, schools, groups and staff. I have two wonderful kids, Abigail and Joshua. When I am not at camp, I enjoy being with my family and being active in all of the sports that my kids are involved in such as basketball, baseball, volleyball and soccer. If you have any questions about Matawa and our outstanding programs please feel free to email me or call (262) 626-2149.
Katy Bauer, Community Engagement.

Ciao tutti! I am fairly new to the Matawa family but have been a part of the Milwaukee Metropolitan YMCA for the past 8 years. I served most of my time as Membership Director at West Suburban and then fulfilled various interim roles until I became permanent at Matawa. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting back into the camp scene as my roots in the organization were in School Age and Day Camp for the Oshkosh YMCA. I have two sweet girls, Eliana and Vivian who with time, will have the opportunity to enjoy the spirit of camp. I look forward to connecting with many families and the surrounding community as I develop in my role here at Matawa. In the meantime please feel free to email or call 262.251.9080 x6404, if you have any comments or questions.
